We have 2 more Ambassadors

I’d like to welcome our 2 new ambassadors to the team,

  1. Hal M. Davis, PACS/RIS Administrator @ Baylor Medical Center at Garland, Texas (United States of America)
  2. Dawn Jakab-Cram, Imaging Informatics Manager @ Northeast Health System, Massachusetts, New England (United States of America)

Lets wish them all the best in raising the bar in the medical imaging informatics.

As anticipated, the day came, it came – 28th August 2009, the inaugural International PACS Administrator Appreciation Day.

A peer in the industry asked me what I did to celebrate this day of recognition, especially since I came up with the idea. Well, allow me to share with you what I planned and what actually happened.

I initially made plans to order a cake with the appropriate wordings (just a cake, no fancy party poppers or balloons, one step at a time kind of plan) and wanted to surprise my colleagues with the cake but it turns out, I had to attend some external meetings (plus there were some work that really needed my attention) so I ended up celebrating the  inaugural International PACS Administrator Appreciation Day in meetings and (night) classes but do not get mistaken, I took a moment to congratulated myself and the people in the meeting (who work with health informatics in some ways) for the good work done for the industry and wished them a happy PACS Administrator Day. I did not forget to take pride in my profession just because I am ’stuck’ with work.

I know David Brown, Imaging Informatics Manager @ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Greater Los Angeles Area (United States of America) had a little ‘party’ and went back to work, I know Matt Granger, PACS Administrator @ Woodland Healthcare, California (United States of America), took pride in the day and announced it to the world in his website and there are many more individuals that celebrated the PACS Administrator Appreciation day.

This web portal received close to 800 unique visits on the 28th August 2009 (well, 2 days if you factor in the time differences) and that’s pretty awesome for an initiative that off only 3 months ago, received no corporate assistance from any major medical imaging equipment or solution provider etc, its all community driven (and we have not fully extended into our community yet). Isn’t this just reflective our profession? We work in the background to ensure smooth operation and enabling what seems to be impossible at times.

So there you go, that was how I celebrated the inaugural International PACS Administrator Appreciation Day and I truly hoped that you – my fellow colleague in the medical imaging informatics profession, be it in a healthcare facility or a solution provider, had a wonderful PACS Administrator Appreciation Day.

If you have missed the celebration on the 28th August 2009 then mark your calenders for the 27th August 2010 for the second annual International PACS Administrator Appreciation Day :)

P.S. And do visit this web portal frequent as there are other exciting plans in the making.

Celeberation

We now have 10 (international) Ambassadors

As of this moment, we officially have a total of 10 (international) ambassadors for PACSAdminDay.com!

The two new volunteers are;

  • Geoff Brooks, PACS Administrator @ Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Illinois (United States of America)
  • Edward Wong, Radiographer (PACS Coordinator) @ Tuen Mun Hospital (Hong Kong)

Our 10 ambassadors span from 6 different countries (well, 7 if you include me) and I personally think that this is a great achievement given that this initiative was officially launch barely 4 months ago.

Are we moving into a global setting? Well 6 (or 7) countries is not exactly an entire planet but we are moving towards it. With ClubPACS being integrated, we are not only building a community to raise awareness and recognition for medical imaging informatics professionals (and related supporting staff) but also a community that shares and contribute knowledge, experiences – raising the bar in our profession.

Of course, there are some misses as well, we had to reject potential sponsors as we are not ‘ready’ yet and media interviews never took place as they are ‘forgotten’, but all these are not stopping us from reaching our goal of building a community for medical imaging informatics professionals, we will reach a level where ‘our voice’ will be make a difference.

As we speak, we have Jeff and John rebuilding the Milwaukee (USA) Chapter and Edward being task to setup the Hong Kong Chapter so we are moving (slowly but surely) and this community of practice is not mine alone, ClubPACS and International PACS Administrator Appreciation Day is yours as much as it is mine so if you would like to contribute  in any way (or provide suggestions), please do take a step forward.

I’m doing my part for our profession, are you?

Dear fellow Medical Imaging Professionals,

As some of you might have noticed, the URL of www.ClubPACS.com is directed to the same portal as www.PACSAdminDay.com

Don’t worry, there is no DNS mixed up nor any bugs anywhere.

In view of time and resources constraints, Dr Paul Nagy ‘retired’ ClubPACS back in late 2008 / early 2009. As some of you might know, I was the Singapore Chapter’s representative of ClubPACS and (with Dr Nagy’s blessing) I took over the ownership of www.ClubPacs.com on April 7 2009.

So what’s going to happen to ClubPACS? Well, the ideal scenario would be to rebuild the community together but such great endeavors are never easy, so I encourage all previous community participants and volunteers of ClubPACS to join me in this journey (Contact me here).

Let’s celebrate our profession and lead the profession to the next level.
